Song(s) of the (past several) week(s)

My bad for failing to update recently, so to make it all up, here are… several songs this week~ This batch is a mix of both Chinese and Korean songs, from new albums, and old! (So many albums and songs came out in the past few weeks. Have you heard of them all yet? If not, enjoy!)

Without you by U-Kiss
First up is Without you by U-Kiss, released in their studio album Only One on February 3, 2010 (back when Kim KiBum and Alexander Lee were still in the group). Very up-beat, and incredibly addicting. Almost guaranteed to get you hyped up and bouncing up and down before the song ends. Enjoy all 3:19 minutes of it

Tonight by Big Bang
Title track from Big Bang’s latest album, Tonight, as all of you Kpop fans know already. Oddly enough, this song didn’t immediately click with me at first, but, if you repeat it a few times, and watch the MV… well, let’s just say magic happens. Flashy? I think so. Bouncy? A definite. Addicting? Agreed. Popular? Nah, more like THE song that everyone knows.
P.S.: Music composed by: G. Dragon. Lyrics written by: G. Dragon. If that’s not talent, then what is? Also, what’s up with his outfits in the MV? … Oh well, just adds on to his appeal I guess (what a cool guy).

Off my mind by Henry (from Super Junior-M)
Everyone’s also talking about Super Junior-M’s hit song “Perfection.” However, that song doesn’t have that much appeal to me (mainly because I didn’t realize they were singing in Chinese at first >.>), though Henry’s solo song “Off my mind” seems to do the trick! I’m captivated by the catchiness of the song and how clear his voice is, especially during the transitions between Chinese and English. But, what’s more amazing is the fact that he composed and wrote the lyrics to the song. Essentially, it’s his song and only his song. I’m just sad that it’s not AS popular as it can be.

Waiting for you by Anson Hu (胡彦斌)
The oldest song of all of them, dating all the way back to 2004 (I believe it’s actually an insert song in the Taiwanese drama Love Contract). But no worries. It’s still good; incredibly beautiful, as expected for a song composed by the singer. It’s a nice contrast to all the bouncy songs in this medley: slow and sweet, like a lullaby~ ^^

Song of the week: Not Alone by Park Jung Min

♥LOVE♥ I knew Park Jung Min was good-looking and talented, but really now? I guess it’s true that he looks good in just about any style.

Anyways, so I’ve gotten addicted to his latest song, Not Alone. It’s a very bouncy pop song, like all the songs that I…advertise on my blog, but I also LOVE the violin parts dispersed throughout the song. They are a nice complement to the mainstream beat, suggesting that he’s having fun singing, yet there is also some personal emotion embedded into the song, too. Also, his voice can be soft and sympathetic as well as deep and manly, no? (Definitely not obsessing over him. How did you reach that conclusion? XD)

As for the MV, I love the emo-look, but… I’m not really sure if it fits well with the overall meaning of the song. I guess if you think about how he’s going from a depressed state into a more self-confident one, it would make more sense since he’s moving on (which would explain the supporting crowd at the end) yet he still remembers his past experiences (which would explain why his outfit never changed throughout the course of the MV). Maybe that’s just me, but anyways, Jung Min also reminded us of his great acting skills. Don’t believe me? How else would you explain how he’s able to show a wide spectrum of emotions, ranging from depression, to fierce self-confidence, to the soft expression of understanding?

Things seem to be going well for him so far. MINNIE, HWAITING!

Song of the week: Little Dimples by JJ Lin

I’ll be short and snappy about this one. This week’s focus is on JJ Lin’s duet with Charlene Choi (from the Hong-Kong group  Twins): 小酒窝 (Little Dimples).

Basically: The music is pretty. The MV is cute. The lyrics are sweet and meaningful. The artist JJ Lin is a BAMF (no joke).

Song of the Week: Only Have Feelings for You

Two versions of this song available: Fahrenheit’s duet with S.H.E.’s Hebe, and JJ Lin’s version. Both are excellent!

The duet version first came out in 2006 as an insert song in the Taiwanese drama Tokyo Juliet. It’s cute, reflecting the image of a happy couple (mostly because their voices flow together nicely and the lyrics seem to reflect their heart-felt emotions to each other).

On the other hand, JJ Lin twists things up a bit. He incorporates more guitar and drums into the instrumental, giving the whole song a bad boy, rock’n'roll feel. But, the original lyrics and meaning is still there, sort of like the idea that even the rowdiest hooligan can also be tamed by love.

I recommend the first for those of you who love cute things. JJ Lin’s version is more upbeat and suited for those who like mainstream music. But, check both of them out! They’re definitely the type of song that will lift up your spirits if you’ve been down like me recently. Enjoy~ :3
